Understanding Public and Money
Really would like to see Phoenix win so we have a Game 7, but without Chris Paul and Deandre Ayton that's going to be tough unless Kevin Durant and Devin Booker combine for about 90 points. Which they are capable of doing. It sounds as if Jamal Murray will try to play through an illness for the Nugs. Ideally, the Suns do win ... by a point.
There are few players I have more confidence in an elimination game than Kevin Durant. In KD's two previous elimination games he scored for 39 and 48 points. This is exactly the moment Phoenix was preparing for when they acquired Durant at trade deadline. The Suns are without future HOFer Chris Paul, Deandre Ayton has been a massive disappointment in the playoffs and is Questionable with a rib injury, Devin Booker who has been the MVP of the Western Conference is dealing with a foot injury and may be less than 100%. KD is likely going to play the entire 2nd half, get up 25+ shot attempts, and the Suns will need him to score 35+ in order to extend the series.
Kevin Durant had four assists total in the first two games of this series, and then Chris Paul got hurt. Since then he's taken on a larger role in facilitating the Phoenix offense, and as he's gotten more familiar with his teammates (and they with him), it's producing high assist totals. He's finished with at least six assists in the last three games, and with Paul out again tonight, I see no reason for Phoenix to change things up.
Chris Paul (groin) has been ruled out again. Over the last three games with him out, Kevin Durant has taken on additional ball-handling responsibilities. With a terrific scorer in Devin Booker at his side, Durant was able to parlay his added opportunities into at least six assists in all three games. It also helped his cause that Durant logged at least 42 minutes in all three games. The over here is the way to go.
Devin Booker scored 19 points in the first half of Game 5, but a lackluster third quarter contributed to him finishing with 28 points. Prior to that, he had scored at least 35 points in three straight games. That included him scoring 47 and 36 points, respectively, in the two games that were played in Phoenix. With the Suns’ season on the line, look for Booker to provide a monster scoring performance at home.
While the Suns are facing elimination, the good news for them is that they will have the advantage of Game 6 being played at home. They won both games that were played in Phoenix in this series and are 4-1 at home in the playoffs. That comes on the heels of them going 28-13 at home during the regular season. The Nuggets were a pedestrian 19-22 on the road, so look for Devin Booker and Kevin Durant to help the Suns for a Game 7.
