White Sox star outfielder Luis Robert isn't playing this afternoon in Cleveland.

Superstardom has long been predicted for Chicago White Sox outfielder Luis Robert, and the 25-year-old Cuban might be on the doorstep of it, batting .273 with 12 homers, 29 RBI, a .886 OPS and 2.9 Wins Above Replacement this season  – already a career high. Alas, Robert isn't in the lineup Wednesday afternoon as the White Sox finish a three-game set with a rubber match in Cleveland, which is -135 at Caesars Sportsbook.

Robert left Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Guardians with soreness in his right hip/quad area and is day to day. The injury-prone Robert missed three months with a right hip flexor strain in 2021 but has missed only one game this season. He was 2-for-4 Tuesday before leaving and is batting .360 this month with eight homers and 16 RBI. He's on the short list of AL Player of the Month candidates as he ranks among the leaders in most offensive categories this month. Robert is a big reason that Chicago is 13-9 over its past 22 games following a 7-21 start to the season.

"Robert is just day to day," first-year manager Pedro Grifol told the media. "Has some soreness in his quad. But he's good. I'm going to give him the day [off Wednesday]."

Clint Frazier is starting in center field in Robert's place. The Sox already are without fellow starters Elvis Andrus (second base) and Eloy Jimenez (DH) as well as closer Liam Hendriks, all on the injured list. Hendriks is in remission following his diagnosis of stage 4 non-Hodgkin lymphoma and could be back next week. So could Jimenez from his abdomen issue. No. 1 catcher Yasmani Grandal is getting today off. Seby Zavala will start behind the plate.

Michael Kopech (2-4, 4.83 ERA) is on the mound Wednesday. The right-hander is 2-1 with a 2.55 ERA and .136 opponents' batting average over his last four starts. Kopech is 0-1 with a 4.61 ERA in six career appearances vs. the Guardians and 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA (0 ER/8.0 IP) as a starter.

Cleveland's Cal Quantrill (2-2, 4.06) has just two career losses in 17 decisions at Progressive Field, but both came this year as he's 1-2 with a 4.64 ERA at home. He is 2-0 overall with a 2.04 ERA in three day starts in 2023. Quantrill won't miss Robert, who is 4-for-11 with a double off him.
