During the month of July, only two right handed starters were held under five strikeouts when facing the Orioles and completing five innings. With Troy Melton being projected to pitch into the 6th inning tonight, I like his chances of getting a 6th strikeout here. The line might be influenced by his previous outing against the Royals (5 Ks), but he still picked up 10 whiffs against an opponent that ran a lineup heavy on the worse side of his split and one that doesn't have many strikeout targets to begin with. The Orioles lineup has six batters with a strikeout rate of 24% or higher vs. righties and Melton is featuring a swinging strike rate above 14% over the last month.

Backing Gunnar Henderson again who continued his hit streak against the Tigers on Monday, with a hit in 12 out of his last thirteen games against the Tigers. Troy Melton has had a terrific season but has had issues with walks each of his last two starts, totaling eight walks. Look for Henderson to extend his hitting streak against the Tigers, and clear his combination line.

After losing the first game of this three game series against the Orioles on Monday, I like the Tigers to bounce back behind second-year pitcher Troy Melton. The right hander has started ten games for Detroit and owns a 5-1 record with a sparkling 1.95 ERA. The Tigers are 8-2 in Melton's starts this season and he has only surrendered more than two runs once. I'm also just fine fading Dean Kremer, who has posted a 5.06 ERA and is 1-3 in six 2026 starts for Baltimore.
