2026 has started rough for the Giants, who are 18-25 and one game out of last place in the NL West, but when they play their heated rival, the Dodgers, their records are thrown out the window. The Giants have won four out of six against the Dodgers this year, and they look to win the four-game series with a win tonight. The Giants have played well for the last week, winning four of their last six against the Pirates and Dodgers. Landen Roupp starts for the Giants, and he beat the Dodgers 3-1 this season on April 21. The Dodgers have lost three of Emmet Sheehan's last four starts, and they also lost the last time he faced the Giants, 3-1. Giants to win.
Emmet Sheehan has been pitching much better at home of late. He’s allowed a combined two runs in his last two home starts as compared to allowing a combined seven runs in his first two home starts. Sheehan has a favorable matchup despite San Francisco winning two of their last three, as their still a top heavy lineup with not much production towards the bottom of the order. Landen Roupp has pitched his best the road with a 2.01 ERA while also holding his opponents to a .205 batting average. Both have top bullpens in the NL to keep this another low scoring affair.

In April, Emmett Sheehan pitched into or completed six innings in 3/4 starts, but since we've turned to May, he's failed to complete five innings in either start. It's been an interesting up and down year for the kid, but he has racked up whiffs and can strike batters out so there is some upside in the strikeout department. After another great Ohtani start last night, the fade here is on Sheehan completing six innings or even being needed to quite frankly. San Fran's lineup starts with 4/5 hitters being left handed and Sheehan has been worse to lefties with a .284 avg against and six HR allowed, so pulling him before all those lefties see him a 3rd time may be the move here.

Caesar’s / MGM. I’m just not quite there on Emmet Sheehan yet. The young righty has shown flashes, but pitching to a 4.79 ERA (4.14 xERA), and needing a lot of pitches to get through at bats (4.09 is 15th most out of 132 qualifiers), this line reads as two outs too many. Even in a plus matchup - I like the Giants to take a measured approach tonight, on the heels of Shohei Ohtani’s brilliant outing yesterday. With the Dodgers bullpen in great shape, take the under down to 16.5 outs.
