Gavin Williams has been up and down with strikeouts but after Minnesota moved a ton of players at the deadline, he now faces a lefty heavy order, that needs to figure out how to mesh quickly. Williams has been far better for strikeouts against left handed hitters and at home, plus some of the lefties he will face in Wallner, Keirsey and Outman all have strikeout rates worse than 29% against right handers. The Guardian's righty is pitching to a 3.50 ERA with about a strikeout per inning in 110 innings this year and he routinely gets deeper into the game, so I like the chances with added opportunities tonight. 0.5u with another 0.5u on the over 6.5 K's at +120 or better.
FanDuel. Minnesota was perhaps the most active seller at yesterday’s trade deadline, trading away ten players off their MLB roster. The vibes in Minnesota had not been great even before the big sell-off (4-9 over their last thirteen games), and Byron Buxton remains on the injured list. Joe Ryan was not dealt, and he’ll be pitching tonight - not a fun guy to fade, but the Guardians can stack lefties against him (his worse split). And Gavin Williams is on the bump for Cleveland - he’s pitched to a 2.81 ERA over his last ten starts. The remnants of the Twins hitters are lefty-heavy, which bodes well for Williams (.530 OPS allowed).
Gavin Williams has been particularly dominant at home, posting a 3.05 ERA in 11 starts at Progressive Field compared to a 4.17 ERA on the road. Joe Ryan struggled in his lone appearance against Cleveland, allowing three earned runs in five innings during a May contest. The Minnesota Twins are missing two of their key offensive players. Byron Buxton, their dynamic center fielder batting .282 with 23 home runs, has been placed on the 10-day injured list due to left rib cartilage irritation. Additionally, Carlos Correa has been traded back to the Houston Astros. The Twins roster has an OPS of .395 in 44 at-bats against Williams.
