DraftKings. Lucas Giolito has failed to clear this line in six of his eight starts this season. Coming back from an elbow injury, his secondary pitches haven’t drawn the swing and misses they had pre-injury. His whiff rate is in the 12th percentile, and his called plus swinging strike rate of 24.5% is his lowest since 2017. The Mariners ebb and flow with their strikeouts, but right now we’re catching them hot. Seattle only has a 20% K% over the last two weeks versus righties, and a .743 OPS. The Red Sox bullpen is in good shape too, so not expecting GIolito’s pitch count to be pushed.
Lucas Giolito looks cooked to me. The Red Sox trading their best hitter - for weak return - at a team when the club was thriving. I don't like it and I especially don't like it vs Logan Gilbert tonight. M's have definitely come back to earth in a big way but they can knock this starter around.
I happened to be looking at fading Boston as it was in such a major trap spot off a home sweep of the Yankees and then flying across country to Seattle. And then ... shocker. Rafael Devers was traded to the Giants. Weird timing with the Sox playing so well of late but he had been unhappy for a while. Can't imagine this goes over well in the locker room immediately, however. And Alex Bregman remains on the injured list. The usually excellent Logan Gilbert is back from the IL and on the mound for the Mariners.
