The Tigers have won two straight after losing the first three of four against Cleveland, but they have a nice, comfortable five-game lead in the AL Central and face the Giants with ace Logan Webb starting, who gave up six runs his last time out against Kansas City. Webb is unique because he gets a decision in almost every appearance, going 4 and 4 in his last eight starts. But his last two wins on the year came against the slumping A's and the struggling Rockies. Jack Flaherty only has two wins on the season, and in his last seven starts, he's won only one game and lost the other six, but he was only terrible in one of them. Tigers win.

Five times he’s been pulled in the sixth inning, mainly due to his struggles the third time through the batting order (opponents with a 1.024 OPS). And at 4.16 pitches per plate appearance (seventh highest amongst 131 qualifiers), Flaherty’s pitch count does tend to run high. That should play today against the Giants, who run the fourth highest pitches per plate appearance as a team. Their platoon against right handed pitching likely has seven hitters who are above average in that metric in the lineup. With Flaherty on four days rest, and having thrown a season high 108 pitches in his last start, he could be on a tighter leash today.
