Understanding Public and Money
It's going to be 81° with wind blowing out to leftfield at 6 miles per hour with a 12% chance of rain. That sounds like warm weather that will make the Padres hit more with Jackson Merrill (.446), crushing the ball since he came back. The Padres have won all five games they played this year, four of which have been by shutout, including Saturday's 21-0 blowout. The Padres at 6-33 are an embarrassment to baseball. The fans in Colorado deserve better. The Padres have now lost eight straight. German Marquez (0-6, 9.90 ERA) has been throwing batting practice this season. San Diego and over.
Colleague Jason La Canfora asked an interesting question in his pick on this game as to when the books would start offering +2.5 instead of +1.5 on the truly atrocious Rockies, who make the 2024 White Sox look like the Yankees -- and I don't mean the New York version but the Bad News Bears version. Well Jason, we have apparently skipped on by 2.5 right to 3.5 -- at least at BetRivers. There is no circumstance in this universe where I don't take +3.5 on a home MLB team unless I suppose I'm pitching. But I might need +20.5 how bad this team is right now. How Bud Black is still manager of this club is truly baffling, but obviously ownership doesn't care.
Rockies getting whacked 20-0, of course we are fading them again. Their terrible bullpen is totally on fumes and they can't hit and they are sending a dude to a mound with a 10 ERA and whom the Friars own. Oh, they are 2-10 vs the NL West on the RL, they have a worse run differential than last year's White Sox at this stage and the Padres are sending Nick Pivetta to the mound, who has been awesome. How long before the 2.5 RL start showing up?
