This is a good spot to fade Triston McKenzie against a Reds lineup that has been performing much better recently. The Reds are 4th in OPS versus right handed pitching over the last 2+ weeks of the season. This is also a hitter friendly environment at Great American Ball Park and McKenzie hasn't been very good away from Cleveland. Both teams have rested bull pens. McKenzie also pairs the highest expected ERA of his career with a career worst Contact%. Lastly, McKenzie has been under in 8/12 starts this season.
Tuesday, the Cleveland Guardians will look to add onto a strong road record of 21-14 as they travel to Cincinnati. The interleague series will feature an opener for Cincinnati with reliever Brent Suter. Expect the Reds to have problems as the Guardians have won four straight games with Triston McKenzie on the mound, while averaging 7.5 runs. Take Cleveland.
Only 9.5 on our board. Obviously Great American Ball Park is hitter friendly but the weather is essentially neutral today (mild temps, little to no wind) so the hook might be a tiny gift. We need Cleveland's Triston McKenzie to return to form as he has struggled the past two but had been pretty good before that. The Reds will use an opener and then Nick Martinez in a bulk role, and Martinez has allowed one run over his past 9.1 innings. This undoubtedly will be decided by the bullpens -- and both are fully stocked with both teams off Monday. Cleveland's pen is excellent. Cincinnati's not so much. The under is 8-1 in the Reds' past nine at home.
