Understanding Public and Money
I'm doing only a half-unit here because we are venturing into curse territory with three other experts on the Red Sox. It does feel like a no-brainer play, but I don't want to poke fate in the eye too much. Tanner Houck was maybe Boston's best pitcher this spring. I lost some money waiting for lineups but had to make sure Rafael Devers was in for the Sox. The A's in their lineup are starting Dopey, Doc, Grumpy, Bashful, Sneezy, Happy, Sleepy, Papa Smurf and a Care Bear. Wow that team is bad. Can't wait for A's-White Sox! I'll be going Under in all those matchups.
Even a broken clock is right twice per day, so we're not going to get carried away by the A's salvaging the finale of the opening four-game set at home vs. Cleveland. Oakland was still outscored 27-11 on the weekend, and while Monday starter Joe Boyle impressed in a late September call-up, being thrown into the rotation by Mark Kotsay is a big leap. The Bosox might be a bit more interesting than we first suspected, displaying plenty of speed on the bases and in the field in the opening set at Seattle. Play Bosox on Run Line
Red Sox lineup looks a lot better with Rafael Devers backs. Also, this is the most athletic Sox team we've seen in quite a while with plenty of dudes who can ran and I expect Alex Cora to have them running all over Shea Langaliers (bat over glove) tonight. A's going with a very inexperienced starter and I'll be fine fading them in general but avoided with their "ace" Paul Blackburn on the mound Sun. Sox starters have looked so far (albeit vs poor SEA lineup). Getting SS Trevor Story back settles down BOS IF defense (better DP combo with Valdez at 2B now) and Tanner Houk gets a ton of ground balls (avg launch angle of 6.5 in 2023; MLB avg is 12.2).
Boston opens the season 2-2 on the road thus far. The Athletics dropped three out of four to Cleveland and have been batting .216 as a team. Boston faces Joy Boyle, who had a tough spring training with 13 innings pitched, 15 walks, and allowed seven earned runs to the White Sox in his final outing before the season. Boston is the far superior team with a combined 2.04 ERA and the better bullpen.
