The Rangers won Game 1 in dramatic fashion with a walk-off home run by Adolis Garcia. They’ll try to take Game 2 with Jordan Montgomery on the hill. He has been excellent in the playoffs, allowing seven runs (six earned) over 25 innings. He has only had one bad outing, which is when he allowed five runs (four earned) over four innings versus the Orioles. The Diamondbacks will try to bounce back with Merrill Kelly, but he had a 1.38 WHIP on the road during the regular season. Look for the Rangers to carry over their momentum from Friday and take Game 2.
Regular season numbers show the Rangers averaging a 5.9 to 4.8 home score and Arizona averaging a 4.7 to 4.8 road score and all three meetings in Texas went Over the total. It’s tilting Over without help, but we have two amazing starters. Merrill Kelly has been sharp in his last six starts with Arizona going 3-3 and the Over happening in four games. Jordan Montgomery has allowed just eight runs in his last eight starts with only two getting Over. I’m betting the Over because I believe Arizona will hit the Texas bullpen for a few. Over is the play.
How can we possibly go against Jordan Montgomery? That dude has made himself many millions of dollars in free agency with his playoff performance. If momentum is a real thing, the Rangers sure have it after last night's wild win. I would also argue their bullpen came out of it in better shape.
Pitching staffs tend to start getting a bit tired by this stage of the playoffs, and even with a few off days earlier this week, the bullpens are still stretched both ways here. With both Merrill Kelly and Jordan Montgomery not likely to last beyond five innings, expect another steady stream of relievers tonight. Texas has scored 26 runs in three games this week and works on seven straight overs into tonight. Play Diamondbacks-Rangers Over
