This was supposed to be the 1984 World Series matchup. All these years later I'm still bitter about it. The Tigers are playing a lot better but this is awfully cheap against DET starter Alex Faedo, who has a 6.16 ERA in 30.2 home innings. The Tigers used both their key relievers on Saturday and Sunday so they probably aren't available. In three starts since joining the Cubs rotation on Aug. 5, Javier Assad is 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA (5 ER/16.2 IP) and two quality starts. The Cubbies better win here because the next two don't line up nearly as well for them in Motown.

Detroit has won four of its last five games. However, three of those wins came against the Guardians, who are 29th in the league in runs per game at home with 3.52. Detroit’s Alex Faedo owns a 6.16 home ERA and faces a Cubs lineup averaging more than five runs per game this season. Chicago is only three games back in the division and have won the last two games Javier Assad has started.

Here we have another example of two teams headed in completely separate directions. The Cubs have been one of the best teams since the All-Star break with a record of 22-12. Chicago currently possesses a half game lead for the third and final wild card spot so every game is essentially a must win for them. Detroit on the other hand is out of contention and focusing on their future. I'll back the team with plenty to play for.
