Seeing some bad decisions on the field (why pitch Keegan Akin!?!?!?!) and bad losses of late and think players (and managers) are looking ahead to the All-Star break. So be a bit careful over the next two weeks or so because we likely see some crazy results. That could be the case here, but I have to play Texas at this relatively cheap number at home even without Corey Seager against a bad Tigers team. We are getting this price because Detroit might have the slight pitching advantage in Reese Olson over Cory Bradford, but the Texas lineup is still that much better even sans Seager. The Rangers bullpen is in great shape. Texas is 11-1 at home in day games.
The Rangers are 21-9 in day games and I like them to stay hot Thursday afternoon versus the Tigers. Texas' bullpen is fresh and ready to support Cody Bradford after Dane Dunning went 8.2 innings in Wednesday's 10-2 win. Tigers starter Reese Olson impressed last time out versus Minnesota, but this is a much tougher task against MLB's top offense at home. The bullpen behind him is taxed. Back Texas to improve to 51-30 against the run line.
After dropping the first game of their series with the Tigers, the Rangers have won both of the last two by a combined score of 18-5. They are 26-14 at home and have scored the most runs in baseball. They have a .847 OPS versus left-handed pitchers and will be facing one Thursday in Reese Olson. Olson had never pitched above Double-A prior to this year. Despite posting a 6.38 ERA and 1.77 WHIP over 10 starts at Triple-A this season, the Tigers have inserted him into their starting rotation. Expect the Rangers to score plenty of runs on their way to winning this matchup.
