Adam Wainwright has two starts against the Cubs this season, pitching 14 innings and only giving up two earned runs. He has allowed one run or less in four of his last five starts. The Cardinals have a top five NL bullpen behind him with a 3.70 ERA. Over the last 10 games, the Cardinals are batting .291, outscoring their opponents by 38 runs. They face Triple A Javier Assad, making his major league debut. The Cubs are also sitting Willson Contreras, Nick Madrigal, and Patrick Wisdom. Take the Cardinals on the runline (-120).
After last night's 1-0 victory, the Cardinals have won eight consecutive games. Adam Wainwright has faced the Cubs twice this season. Wainwright lasted at least seven innings and led the Cardinals to a win in both games. Javier Assad is up from Triple A to make the start for Chicago. While Assad put up decent stats in the minors, he'll have to make his MLB debut against one of the best teams. Lay the -190 and back the Cardinals to win nine in a row in the first game of the doubleheader.
Willson Contreras, Patrick Wisdom and Nick Madrigal are out of the Game 1 lineup for Chicago, which gives Javier Assad his first big-league start on the mound. Assad was promoted to Triple-A Iowa at the beginning of July, and posted a 2.95 ERA and 1.05 WHIP in 36.2 innings over eight appearances there. He is not among the team's Top 30 prospects. Adam Wainwright starts for the Cards and he's always been a Cubs-killer (1.29 ERA in 14 innings this year). St. Louis appears to be starting everyone of note in the lineup.
Im gonna play a doubleheader strategy on the Cardinals here. I don’t think they lose both these games but I do think it is possible the Cubs win one of these games. So I will play the Cards in Game 1, if they win we will either stay off Game 2 or play the Cubs. If they lose we will come right back to the Cardinals. I would go with the Cubs in both games to try to hit one and come out positive, but Adam Wainwright is facing Javier Assad who is making his Major League debut. Assad isn’t even a top prospect, but he has been pitching well in Triple A this season. Adam Wainwright has allowed just 2 ER in 14 IP against the Cubs this season. The Cubs have the bullpen advantage which is my only worry, and the main reason I want to play them in Game 2 if we get the right circumstances. However, I like the Cards in Game 1.
