This is a chance for White Sox pitcher Dylan Cease to shake off the consistency issues that plagued him in 2021. With the Rays coming right off a home series and losing two straight, I expect the travel to affect them. Back the White Sox.
As a White Sox fan, I was going to pass here if Eloy Jimenez wasn't back in the lineup after missing Thursday. He is in there. So is Yasmani Grandal. The Pale Hose's Dylan Cease is as nasty as anyone in the AL. He was pretty good in his 2022 debut in Detroit but was way better at home last year. The Rays do have a bullpen problem with their starters continually going less than 5 IP. Maybe the league has figured them out? And, hey, Randy Arozarena: A gift three-run inside-the-park homer would be nice here. Thanks for that yesterday. Not.
White Sox starter Dylan Cease is about 15 cents cheap Friday. He was amazing in five innings of work during his first start at Detroit, allowing two hits, one run, and striking out eight. The Rays swept the Orioles to start the season but then lost three of four at home to the A’s. Take the White Sox to win.
Drew Rasmussen has been very good for the Rays each of the past two seasons, but he doesn’t get deep into the game. Well, that’s a problem considering the Rays bullpen has pitched 26.2 innings in the past 4 games. The starters have accounted for just 9.1 of the 36 innings pitched in the past four days. This bullpen is more than worn down and it was evident in the Athletics series. The White Sox essentially had yesterday off resting all their starters and not using any of their top bullpen arms, and they were one of the best home teams in the league last season. I honestly think Dylan Cease will win a Cy Young sometime soon, his stuff is that good. He’s not there yet but I love this matchup against a strikeout-heavy team in the Rays. Take the White Sox at home.
