With relatively evenly matched teams, the underdog is the only way to go in this NL play-in game Tuesday. Nationals ace Max Scherzer is just 4-5 with a 3.73 ERA lifetime in the postseason, which includes 13 starts. He is 2-2 in his career against the Brewers. Milwaukee starter Brandon Woodruff is 2-0 with a 0.96 ERA in two career starts against Washington, and 1-1 with a 1.46 ERA in the playoffs.

Max Scherzer is 11-7 with a 2.92 ERA this season and he is 0-2 with a 3.72 ERA in four playoff starts with the Nationals. Brandon Woodruff is 11-3 with a 3.62 ERA this season and he gave up two earned runs in 12.1 IP in the playoffs last season. Both teams come into this game hot, the Brewers going 20-7 in September while the Nats have won their last eight games. The Nats have the edge with the lineup but the difference in this game will be the relievers, and it sounds like the Nats are willing to use Stephen Strasburg and Patrick Corbin out of the bullpen, which is why I am leaning towards Nats.

My model says the Brewers win the Wild Card game almost 50 percent of the time, so you're getting good value with Milwaukee at this underdog price. I realize the Brewers have a daunting task facing the Washington pitching staff, but Milwaukee overcame more (namely the loss of Christian Yelich) just to get to this point, winning 18 of 20 games down the stretch. The Brewers were 18-4 when Brandon Woodruff pitched during the season. I'm rolling the dice with Milwaukee.

Both these teams come in sizzling hot, with the Brewers winning 21 of their last 28 and the Nationals are batting over .300 during an eight-game win streak. The Over has happened in six of their last eight meetings and Max Scherzer hasn’t been dominant in his last three starts, allowing 12 runs combined. Over is the top play Tuesday.
