Ravens vs. Raiders Week 1 NFL odds: Gus Edwards, Marcus Peters both feared to have suffered season-ending injuries; Ty'Son Williams major Fantasy boost

Potentially devastating news for the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday.

By@jordanpaytonsn1Updated: Sep 09, 2021 9:00PM UTC . 3 min read

Nothing is confirmed yet, but various media reports out of Baltimore Ravens practice today are that the team fears both Pro Bowl cornerback Marcus Peters and new No. 1 running back Gus Edwards suffered season-ending torn ACLs. The injuries actually happened on back-to-back plays, according to the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, and Coach John Harbaugh ended practice. Baltimore was -4.5 for Monday night's game at the Raiders (down to -3.5 already at some books), but this will have season-long ramifications.

The Ravens already were incredibly thin at running back with projected No. 1 JK Dobbins having suffered a season-ending injury in the preseason. So did third-stringer Justice Hill, who has since been released. The team signed veteran Le'Veon Bell this week for depth behind Edwards and Ty'Son Williams, who now may become the bell cow. He was undrafted in 2020 out of BYU and has not played in a regular-season game. Williams spent much of last year on Baltimore's practice squad, where Bell currently is. Baltimore also signed Devonta Freeman to the practice squad in the wake of the Edwards news.

Keep in mind, too, that the Ravens will open the season without first-round wideout Rashod Bateman. He will miss at least the first three games on injured reserve. Fellow WR Miles Boykin is also on IR.

Peters is a three-time All-Pro and three-time Pro Bowler who last season started all 14 games in which he played and had 52 tackles, a team-high four interceptions, four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and a sack. He also had a huge fourth-quarter interception late in the wild-card win over Tennessee. His three playoff picks are tied for the most in the NFL since he entered the league in 2015.

In fact, since 2015 (first with Kansas City, then with Rams before traded to Baltimore in the 2019 season), Peters has the NFL's most takeaways (39), interceptions (31), defensive touchdowns (seven) and interception return touchdowns (six).

Baltimore has an Over/Under win total of 10.5 this season at Caesars Sportsbook and is a +120 favorite to win the AFC North. All Ravens futures odds may well change now.  As you can see below, the SportsLine Projection Model has downgraded the Ravens a fair amount with this news.
