Ravens' JK Dobbins odds fallout from season-ending injury: Gus Edwards' yardage total gets raised

The Baltimore Ravens have lost excellent young running back JK Dobbins for the season.

The Baltimore Ravens confirmed on Sunday what was widely expected: Second-year running back J.K. Dobbins will miss the 2021 season due to a torn ACL in his left knee suffered in the team's 37-3 preseason win at Washington on Saturday, the Ravens' absurd 20th consecutive preseason victory. Dobbins had been priced +3000 at Caesars Sportsbook to win the NFL rushing title this year.

Last year as a rookie, the No. 55 overall pick out of Ohio State rushed 134 times for 805 yards and nine touchdowns while catching 18 passes for 120 yards. His 6.0 yards per rush ranked first among all NFL running backs and was the second-best by a rookie over the past 20 seasons behind the Saints' Alvin Kamara, who averaged 6.1 yards per carry in 2017. Dobbins was the first player since Adrian Peterson in 2012 to total at least 800 yards, nine rushing touchdowns and a 6.0-yard average.

Caesars had given Dobbins Over/Under totals of 1,025.5 rushing yards and 9.5 rushing TDs this year. His injury certainly boosts the Fantasy profile of Gus Edwards. He has averaged 5.2 yards per carry over the past three seasons, which is No. 3 among all running backs. Edwards' Pro Football Focus rushing grade of 90.2 is No. 5 in the league since 2018.

Edwards carried 144 times for 723 yards and six scores in 2020. Those were all career highs. Edwards is one of two players in NFL history to have at least 700 yards rushing and average at least 5.0 yards per carry in the first three seasons of his career. The other is Cleveland's Nick Chubb.

With the Dobbins news, Caesars raised Edwards' season rushing yardage total from 600.5 to 630.5 -- that seems awfully low, wouldn't shock me to see that rise. He's +15000 to lead the league in rushing. None of the Ravens' futures odds changed, however. Baltimore also has in the backfield Justice Hill and Ty'Son Williams, who spent most of last year on team's practice squad but looked good this preseason.

There has been some talk that the Ravens might sign free-agent running back Todd Gurley – Le'Veon Bell is still out there, too. Gurley visited Baltimore in June but didn't get a deal done. This is also the week all teams must cut their rosters to 53 so the Ravens may wait until after Tuesday's roster deadline to see what's out there.

Baltimore is -4.5 for the Week 1 Monday night game at Las Vegas.
