Overall, it was not a good Week 1 to be an NFL head coach on a hot seat. Four of the five favorites to be the first fired – Detroit's Matt Patricia, Atlanta's Dan Quinn, the New York Jets' Adam Gase and Houston's Bill O'Brien – all lost their games. The lone winner among the "favorites" was Jacksonville's Doug Marrone. However, it was how lackluster the Jets looked that has now vaulted Gase into the favored role to be the first one gone, just ahead of Patricia.

The Jets simply looked unprepared in their 27-17 loss in Buffalo on Sunday as Josh Allen became Buffalo's first quarterback to top 300 yards passing in nearly three-plus years. It would have been a complete blowout by halftime – it was 21-3 – if Allen hadn't lost two fumbles inside Jets territory. Gase is supposed to be a creative offensive mind yet his team opened the game with three straight three-and-outs and combined for 23 yards of offense and one first down on the first five possessions.

To make matters worse, Gase let a clearly injured Le'Veon Bell play in the second half when Bell was dealing with a hamstring injury and now Bell is going to miss a couple of weeks. "I'm mad at myself that I let him go back in there in the second half," Gase said, via ESPN.

Gang Green could be staring at another blowout this week as the Jets are 7-point home underdogs vs. the San Francisco 49ers.

As for Patricia, his Lions lost in truly Lion-esque fashion, blowing a 23-6 fourth-quarter home lead and falling 27-23 to the Chicago Bears on Sunday. Detroit played very well for three quarters and still should have won, but rookie running back D'Andre Swift dropped a sure TD pass with less than 10 seconds remaining.

That's not Patricia's fault, although having Matt Prater attempt a 55-yard field goal with about four minutes left surely was. Even if Prater makes that, it only goes from a 10-point to a 13-point game. What's the point when it's still under a two-possession game? But Prater missed and the Bears scored a TD quickly on the way to the comeback. In Week 1 last year, the Lions blew an 18-point fourth-quarter lead and ended up tying Arizona. Detroit is +5.5 for Week 2 in Green Bay.

Marrone had been the +350 second favorite to be the first coach fired behind Patricia, but Marrone's Jaguars looked quite good in upsetting the Colts 27-20. The Jaguars entered Week 1 as the NFL's biggest home underdogs. They are +10 Week 2 at Tennessee, also the biggest line for Sunday.

The Falcons saved Quinn's job by closing 2019 with four straight wins and six in their final eight but were mostly dominated in Sunday's 38-25 loss to Seattle. The Falcons had more than 500 yards but couldn't stop Russell Wilson. Atlanta is +5 Week 2 in Dallas.
