Expert Picks
This should be an entertaining game between two strong teams. Norway thrashed Iraq 4-1 in their opening match. Erling Haaland was devastating in attack, but the Norwegian defense looked flimsy, and they were lucky to only concede on goal. Senegal lost 3-1 to France, the outright World Cup favorite, but the Lions of Teranga played well in that game. The Senegal squad is stacked with dangerous attackers, include Sadio Mané, Ibrahim Mbaye, Nicolas Jackson, and Ismaïla Sarr, so this promises to be an entertaining, high-scoring match.
Senegal is the higher-rated team in the world but didn't look that great in its WC opener, a 3-1 loss to France -- although France is obviously great. Erling Haaland and the Norwegians were dominant in WC qualifying and carried that over to their opener with a 4-1 rout of Iraq. Haaland had a brace and has scored in 11 straight matches for country.
Norway's attack is spearheaded by arguably the most lethal goal scorer in the game. Erling Haaland has scored 57 international goals in 51 appearances for Norway, and he scored a brace in his first-ever World Cup appearance last week. Haaland should have success against a Senegal side that will be pressing for a positive result after suffering a 3-1 defeat against France. Over 2.5 goals have been scored in three of Senegal's past four matches, a trend I expect to continue against Norway.
