Texas Tech is the better team on both sides of the ball. However, the Cougars can hold their own on defense especially. Houston got a bunch of players from Texas A&M through the portal with a chance to get revenge on another in-state school. The Red Raiders did have an extra week to prepare for this one but with Houston’s physicality in this in-state rivalry, they’ll get up for this one.
The remarkable effort required to storm back from a two-touchdown fourth quarter deficit at Oregon State does not inspire confidence that Houston is a top-tier team in the Big 12. Conversely, we just saw Texas Tech go into Salt Lake City and totally control Utah in a wire-to-wire win. Houston quarterback Conner Weigman is going to be under duress by the Red Raiders dynamic pass rushers, and if Texas Tech can score early and make Houston one-dimensional it's going to be a long night for the Coogs.
Believe it or not, the lone meeting between unbeaten teams in Week 6. Seems like an awfully low UH team total even if Texas Tech has been really good defensively thus far -- against a bit of an offensively challenged slate, however. The Cougars have scored at least 27 points in each game and our model has them with 21 here. Massey has them with 24. TTU is No. 2 nationally in scoring and usually scores fast, so that defense is on the field a lot and in theory may wear down against the first quality opponent of the year.
The Red Raiders defense has been a problem for teams all throughout the season. QB Connor Weigman is a bit turnover-prone, and Texas Tech will find the football in that regard. I like how the offense is still very texas tech worthy and will play a complete game vs Houston.
