The Jonathan Smith era begins not a moment too soon at East Lansing after MSU was left rudderless following the Mel Tucker fiasco of last season. How quickly, or even whether, Smith can replicate his successes at Oregon State remains to be seen, but he has brought some Beavers with him from Corvallis, including QB Aidan Chiles, as Sparty looks for some offensive punch after ranking 128th nationally at 15.9 ppg a year ago.
