Back in May when Week 1 spreads were first released, the Cardinal were posted as 10-point favorites in this matchup. That number plummeted amid Hawaii's respectable outing in a 35-28 road loss to Vanderbilt last week. There is a lot of uncertainty surrounding the Cardinal after it made the long overdue move past the David Shaw era and hired FBS newcomer Troy Taylor, The Warriors have covered seven straight home games against Pac-12 opponents, but this drastic spread steam opens a window of value on Stanford.

Credit to Hawaii coach Timmy Chang for quickly turning around the culture within the program. Their QB Brayden Schager looks like a budding star after his performance against Vanderbilt. With their offense clicking, and having a game under their belts already, it feels like the perfect spot to play a Stanford team who is rebuilding in Troy Taylor's first season as the coach.

Stanford was a really bad offensive team last year and has to break in a new starting quarterback and, well, entire scheme under new coach Troy Taylor. Hawaii actually played pretty well defensively in its season-opening loss at Vanderbilt -- at least considering how bad UH was on that side of the ball in 2022. No model I check has even 60 combined points being scored in this one.
