For as close as these teams are in talent -- and I do expect a close game in the first half -- LSU's offense ultimately remains too one-dimensional to compete with that of Auburn for four quarters. Jarrett Stidham and the homefield advantage will be the differences in this one, allowing Auburn to come away with a two-score win by the time the final buzzer sounds. LSU may be starting three freshmen along the offensive line, and Auburn's defense plays way better at home. Unless the Bayou Bengals continuously get to Stidham as they did last year, I like the homestanding Tigers to pull it out.
Both the LSU and Auburn Tigers opened the season with big wins against ranked opponents. To open up SEC play this will be a crucial game in terms of the long term picture for both teams. Yet look for the Auburn Tigers to pull away in this one as LSU’s defense fails to protect LSU quarterback Joe Burrow as they did against the Hurricanes.
I have a play on the total in this game as well, and my pick here is directly tied to it. I just don't foresee a lot of points being scored in this matchup, which makes LSU +10 an attractive option.
If I've taken away anything from what I've seen from LSU and Auburn in the first two weeks, it's that I love watching their defenses get to work. I'm not expecting either offense to find much room to work with, and I think we've got a rock fight on our hands.
