This bet is a simple one. When you see Turkish giants Galatasaray playing at home, you bet on goals. The kings of Turkey have been an absolute terror both domestically and in UCL this season. With a tremendous 26 goals scored in league play and seven already in the UCL, this is a team that doesn't know how to put its foot on the brake. The hosts have also been leaky defensively, allowing an average of more than two goals in their first four UCL matches. With the likes of Mauro Icardi and Wilfried Zaha available for Galatasaray and Rasmus Hojlund and Bruno Fernandes for Manchester United, I expect to see a high-scoring shootout at RAMS park.
Despite the 3-2 Galatasaray victory at Old Trafford last month, I’m not expecting a lot of goals here. But with Man U’s shaky back line, expecting to cash an Under on a Red Devils match is a fool’s errand. United are wracked by injuries, and top scoring threat Marcus Rashford is suspended after seeing red in the 4-3 loss to Copenhagen. I expect the visitors to be playing not to lose. Galatasaray should be, too, with a potential winner-take-all (well, second place) against Copenhagen to close group play Dec. 12. The hosts have won all six of their home league matches, with a 16-5 advantage in goals. They should beat beleaguered United at home.
This game promises to be an open and entertaining contest. Galatasaray clinched a famous 3-2 win at Old Trafford when the teams met on October 3. The Turkish team has recorded seven goals in four Champions League matches so far this season. However, it has been hamstrung by a leaky defense, which has conceded nine times. Man Utd has been even worse at the back, with nine goals scored and 11 conceded. As such, these teams are third and fourth respectively in their group, but both can still qualify for the Round of 16. They will be fired up for Wednesday’s showdown in Istanbul, and we could witness another classic.
These two teams combined for five goals in the reverse fixture, a 3-2 victory for Galatasaray at Old Trafford. Man United know they need a victory on Wednesday if they want to keep their hopes of advancing to the knockout stages alive. The Red Devils gave up four goals to FC Copenhagen in their last away match in the Champions League and they’ve conceded three or more goals in three of their last six matches across all competitions. Galatasaray, meanwhile, are coming off a 4-0 victory over Alanyaspor over the weekend and Over 2.5 goals have been scored in six of their last seven matches in all competitions.
