Patriots vs. Seahawks NFL Week 1 betting preview
The last time we saw these teams, the Seahawks were hoisting their second Lombardi Trophy after a thorough 29-13 victory. Seattle was only able to muster one touchdown on offense, settling for five Jason Myers field goals, but the defense stole the show with six sacks, one fumble recovery and two interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown. It was a tough day for Patriots quarterback Drake Maye, who put up most of his yardage numbers in the fourth quarter with the game well out of reach.
Maye and the Pats will hope to spoil the Seahawks' Super Bowl celebration and the start of their title defense on Wednesday. New England returns most of its key pieces from a season ago, but the team also added a new playmaker for Maye on offense in A.J. Brown. Brown has been a top receiver for years now, and he comes to the Patriots both to reunite with head coach Mike Vrabel but to also serve as a clear top option for Maye in the passing game. The team will likely be without second-year running back TreVeyon Henderson due to an ankle injury, so look for Rhamondre Stevenson to get a lot of work in Week 1. New England's offense ranked second in points scored and third in yards gained last season, while the defense was fourth in points allowed and eighth in total yards given up.
As for the Seahawks, it all starts on defense. Seattle's "Dark Side" defense finished first in the NFL in points allowed under head coach and play caller Mike Macdonald, and the group returns largely intact, losing only safety Coby Bryant and cornerback Riq Woolen in free agency. The Seahawks' defensive line group is deep and made life very difficult for Maye in the Super Bowl. Offensively, there are some notable questions. The team lost offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak to the Raiders' head coaching job and replaced him with former 49ers tight ends coach Brian Fleury, a first-time play caller. Additionally, the team lost Super Bowl MVP running back Kenneth Walker III and will be without Zach Charbonnet for a good chunk of the season due to a torn ACL. The team drafted Notre Dame back Jadarian Price in the first round. Sam Darnold is back for Year 2 in Seattle, and he'll be targeting reigning Offensive Player of the Year Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who signed a mega deal this offseason. The Seahawks were third in points scored and eighth in yards gained in 2025.
The Seahawks are favored at home, and the SportsLine Projection Model, which simulates every NFL game 10,000 times, has Seattle covering as favorites in more than 60% of simulations.
