Here's a chance (temporarily at least) for Roma to move into the top four in Serie A. In his first season behind the bench since moving from Atalanta, Gian Piero Gasperini has seen hints of a breakthrough, and the Giallorosi have advanced to the KO phase of the Europa League. Roma has also taken care of the lower-echelon of Serie A, though Gasperini would like to see top goal-getter Matias Soule back on the scoresheet for the first time in a month. Meanwhile after getting results in four matches after Daniele De Rossi took over behind the bench in early November, Genoa has started to lose traction again, though top scorer Leo Ostigard should feature after his recent calf injury. Roma have lost three of their last four Serie A matches, and yet here I stand, betting on them not only to win, but cover a spread?? It is true that Roma are coming off a bad run, but it happened during a brutal run, which included Juventus, Napoli, Como and two Europa League matches. This team has finally had a massive nine day period to rest their legs and prep for vengeance at home. They are the better squad, with a brilliant manager at the home, and are absolute menaces when they play at home. Genoa is fighting to avoid relegation, so while this match might not be exciting with Genoa expected to park the bus, I think Roma bounce back here.
Serie A wasn't particularly good to us yesterday, but Genoa is near bottom of the table, has lost four straight in all competitions and will be using third-string netminder Daniele Sommariva with the top two guys either suspended or hurt. Several defenders are also out. AS Roma isn't scoring much but also has given up a league-low 10 goals. Across 64 previous top-flight contests in Rome between these two, there have been just nine Genoa wins. I would think only a draw beats us. Roma are without a draw in 28 straight matches.
