Expert Picks
The Flames are slumping but they are healthy and also catch a major break in Florida starting Spencer Knight over Sergei Bobrovsky in net. Knight hasn't played since Dec. 30 and had been terrible in three straight starts. Calgary is good value at this price at home as Florida is basically a .500 road team and 1-6 in its past seven as a road favorite.
Jacob Markstrom has a 3.43 GAA over his last seven starts, so I expect him to struggle against a Florida team that’s scoring 4.13 goals per game. Thanks to the Panthers’ high-powered offense, nine games in a row have gone Over 6.5. Sergei Bobrovsky has been playing well but not well enough where I worry about a shutout. We saw this goalie matchup play out in Florida earlier this month, and the Panthers walked away with a 6-2 win. Over is the play.
My model says the Panthers win in almost 60 percent of the simulations, so you're getting strong value with them at this number. Florida is tied with Tampa Bay atop the Atlantic Division (57 points) thanks to a stretch during which it has won eight of nine games and earned a point in the other. One of the victories in that span was a 6-2 triumph over Calgary in which Patric Hornqvist scored a pair of goals. The 35-year-old Swede has notched three goals and two assists in his last four games while leading scorer Jonathan Huberdeau, who is tied for third in the NHL in points (53), has recorded five tallies and 15 assists during his current eight-game streak. Calgary has been outscored 20-7 during its four-game slide.
