Yes, the Seahawks' defense is terrible but their offense can keep this close. The Chargers rank 26th in pressure rate, so Geno Smith should have another fine outing, especially if Tyler Lockett (hamstring, questionable) suits up as expected. According to PFF, Seahawks rookie running back Kenneth Walker forced a league-high 12 missed tackles last week in the win over Arizona. He faces a Chargers team that ranks 31st in yards per carry allowed (5.6). Look for Smith, who ranks third with a 108.1 passer rating, to improve to 12-3 ATS in his last 15 starts.
The Seahawks offense finally delivered a bit of a dud last week, but Kenneth Walker looks to be a star at running back. That's great news for Seattle as they head to L.A. to play one of the worst rush defenses in the league. A big Walker day will take pressure off darkhorse MVP candidate Geno Smith and allow the Seahawks to have a big offensive day, either keeping them in the game if their defense reverts to form or getting them the upset win should the Chargers offense continue to stumble. The Chargers have a bye next week, so it makes sense to hold out anyone dealing with a serious injury (i.e., Keenan Allen) to get extra recovery time.
There are a lot of ways in which the Seahawks and Chargers are very similar this season. Both have a lot of talent on defense and are explosive, downfield passing offenses with big time playmakers at receiver. Where Seattle has a bit of an edge in this matchup is also where the two teams defer, and it's in the run game. The Seahawks are able to run the ball effectively than Los Angeles, which at any point in the game should be enough to help keep this one fairly tight and under six points.
