The Vikings' struggles with the Bengals take on a different tone this week when one sees what Chicago has done to Cincinnati in Week 2. Meanwhile, the Cardinals were uber-impressive in utilizing their playmaking weapons against a Titans team that was completely outmatched. Week 1 results should not overly influence team opinions, but when you have a banged up Minnesota defense travelling West against Kyler Murray, DeAndre Hopkins & Co., that's a recipe for disaster. If the Cardinals can slow down or stop Dalvin Cook, which should clearly be their game plan as it was last week with Derrick Henry, they should cover the number.
I’m surprised to see this at -3.5, as is my model, which makes this game -6. Arizona QB Kyler Murray and WR DeAndre Hopkins looked spectacular and the Cardinals' offense is dangerous. If the Vikings had issues with Cincinnati in Week 1, imagine what could happen against Arizona.
The Vikings lost to the Bengals on the road last week in OT, and it won’t get an easier on the road in Arizona. I frankly just don't think the VIkings are very good. When their defense plays well, they have a chance but I don't see their defense playing well in Arizona. The Cardinals blew out the Titans in week 1 on the road and they return home with fans for the first time this season. Don't be afraid to buy a point to get it off the push line. But I like the Cards to cover at their home opener.
The Cardinals really stuffed the stat sheet, showing complete domination at Tennessee last week, but they also led a category no one is talking about: penalties. It’s something the Cards do often. The same errors -- the same drive-killing false starts -- have plagued them the last two seasons, and coach Kliff Kingsbury holds no one accountable. I took the points with the Vikings coming off a loss.
I'm not giving the capable Vikings 3.5 points, so we'll hit the moneyline. Minnesota is really banged up on defense with linebacker Anthony Barr, defensive end Everson Griffen and safety Harrison Hand all out. Another backer, Eric Kendricks, is questionable. If he sits, this spread is going back to 4 at a minimum. First-round rookie offensive tackle Christian Darrisaw will sit again and that O-Line was a mess last week in Cincinnati. Essentially, the Vikes will have to outscore Kyler Murray and the Cardinals. Maybe they can stay within 3, so that's why the ML. If Minnesota gets housed, Mike Zimmer may be fired Monday.
Good news for the Arizona Cardinals is that what led them to success in Week 1 against Tennessee is identical to winning Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings. Take away the run game, pressure the QB and remove play-action from Kirk Cousins' repertoire. Expect Minnesota to have issues with the Cardinals explosive attack both on the ground and in the air, which should lead to more of both. Cardinals get it done at home.
