The Clippers could be in for a long season. Paul George is no longer with the team and Kawhi Leonard (knee) is out indefinitely to begin the season. Outside of James Harden and Normal Powell, they don’t have a lot of great scoring options. The Suns enter the season healthy and they finally have a real point guard in Tyus Jones. It’s going to be difficult for the Clippers to keep this game close.
One of the more aggressive rises in the points prop market belongs to LA Clippers player Norman Powell. I expect his points market to rise on a soft number tonight. Powell scored in double figures in all three matchups against the Suns last season, and now goes from a sixth man to second option for the Clippers. Additionally, the atmosphere is going to be electric for the Clippers in the first regular season game at Intuit Dome. Play his over on his points.
The Clippers open what looks like an amazing Intuit Dome on Wednesday, but they aren't going to be very good at all with Paul George now in Philly until Kawhi Leonard comes back -- if he ever does. He might as well just be a starting pitcher: Play every 5 days or something. Sad/ridiculous. While I don't think the Suns are realistic title contenders, I do think their offseason signing of point guard Tyus Jones was crazy underrated. He is exactly what they needed. Jones moves Grayson Allen, off a career year, to a Sixth Man role. Allen was a bit banged up in the preseason but is expected to play.
Lots of "new" and a different look for the Clippers...new uniforms, new arena, no Paul George (now Philly), no Kawhi Leonard (hurt...what else is new?). Also a new "defensive coordinator" in Jeff Van Gundy, consistent with other offseason moves that tended to favor prowess at the stop-end, with Derrick Jones, Kris Dunn, and Nicolas Batum (in a second tour of Clips duty) added. If that is indeed the Clips' focus for Ty Lue then expect some lower scorelines, even against a potentially-potent team like the Suns with Devin Booker, Kevin Durant, and Bradley Beal on the floor (though they did not play together often last season). We'll take a lead on some LA lower-scoring trending at the outset of the new campaign. Play Suns-Clippers Under
