Some late breaking news in that Jazz All-Star and leading scorer Donovan Mitchell is not expected to play after all in Game 1. He has been sidelined for five weeks after suffering an ankle injury on April 16 against the Indiana Pacers but did practice this week and was expected to go. Mitchell averaged 35 points on 60% shooting in Utah's three regular-season wins over Memphis. The Jazz probably still win this game, but I'll now take the points.
Memphis played Utah tough in all three meetings this season, covering twice, but the Jazz still won each time. Donovan Mitchell (ankle) is expected to sit out again for Utah on Sunday. That lull in the Jazz's season that has us now casting doubt on them all happened when Mitchell was out. He hasn't played since Apr. 16, but top-seeded Utah won seven of its final nine regular-season games, so it has learned to succeed without him.
