He gets an advantageous Mariners lineup that skews lefty (his better split) and is well below average at the plate (.668 OPS in the second half).
In a bit of a rut at the moment in MLB (mainly on the dang Dodgers), but I can't ignore it when the Mariners' Bryan Woo pitches away from Seattle. Great there in 2026 but 1-8 with a 6.22 ERA away. Why don't the M's let him follow an opener or something? A few Astros have good splits off him led by Christian Walker (.385, 2 2B, HR). Houston owns an .859 OPS against right-handed pitching at home over the last 30 days, best in the majors. The Astros' bullpen is in terrific shape because the team didn't use anyone of note in Saturday's blowout loss. A few injured regulars are out for the Mariners led again by outfielder Taylor Ward.
The Astros have only gone 6-6 behind Hunter Brown this season, and he's looked a little off since coming back from injury on June 16th. He's only looked like the dominant pitcher from last year once on July 25th, when he shut down the White Sox for seven innings. Bryan Woo hasnтАЩt allowed a run in his last two starts, and his last start is a big deal because he went five innings allowing no runs on the road at Yankee Stadium, but the Mariners lost 4-1. Woo may have fixed something in his mechanics, but the road has still been terrible for him, with a 1-8 record in 13 road starts and a 6.22 ERA. Astros to win.
Bryan Woo has struggled away from Seattle this season. His ERA is over 6 on the road and has been held under this line in over 75% of his road starts. Couple that with the Astros have been hitting the ball very well recently, this looks like a solid spot to fade Woo.
