This spring, he was built up to 73 pitches (5 innings) 11 days ago, and then threw two innings of live batting practice last week. The Rays, who are outwardly overprotective of their pitchers (see Drew Rassnussen’s gamelog from last season), are highly unlikely to let McClanahan pitch past five innings here, even if he’s super effective. And the effectiveness will be tough to come by as the Brewers are one of the most patient teams in baseball, seeing the second most pitches per plate appearance. I am surprised we are seeing 15.5 lines at all.

That’s right in line of what we saw last season when Tampa Bay won the series over Milwaukee, with two one run wins of 4-3, and 3-2. Back the Rays as Shane McClanahan gets his first win since 2023.
