This is a rematch from last week when these two starters faced off and Chris Sale was solid for eight shutout innings. Ronald Acuna and Matt Olson have turned up the heat lately, as Acuna was 11 for 26 during the win streak and Olson hitting .357 in Sept with seven home runs. We get Chris Sale on against a Nats lineup that's missing James Wood, Josh Bell and red-hot newcomer, Daylen Lile, who was hurt yesterday and at just -120, I think we're getting some good value here. MacKenzie Gore has pitched to a 2.84 ERA over his last six starts but danced around serious trouble in the 1st inning vs. this lineup last week and I think facing them again will be tougher.
Was not on my radar between teams playing out the string, but the Nationals are sitting four of their biggest bats against Chris Sale in James Wood (27 HR, 89 RBI), Josh Bell (20 HR, 61 RBI), Luis Garcia (13 HR, 62 RBI) and Daylen Lile (team-best .290). If the Braves can score two runs in the first five off Mackenzie Gore, I think we're good.
The Braves have won eight in a row and look like the team many of us picked to make the playoffs. The Nationals are still bad despite two straight wins over whatever the Mets are right now. I love the Chris Sale vs. MacKenzie Gore matchup for the Braves, too. This is a mismatch.
