FanDuel. Andrew Abbott has been fantastic for the Reds this season, pitching to a 2.09 ERA. His strikeout and whiff rates remain average, but by virtue of his overall effectiveness, he’s cleared this line in 12/18 starts (including 7/10 at home). The Braves come into this one with a 25% strikeout rate against left handed starters this season (openers excluded). Fourteen of the last 21 southpaws have cleared this line. Six hitters in tonight’s lineup have above average strikeout rates against lefties this season. And without Ronald Acuna, the lineup is a lot less scary.
Atlanta is in utter free-fall, probably trades DH Marcell Ozuna (at least) today and is in such desperate straits in the rotation due to injury it had to trade for and now start the awful Carlos Carrasco (5.91 ERA) tonight in Cincinnati. Although the way this July has gone, CC will throw a perfect game and hit a pinch-hit grand slam. Good riddance July. Cincy is battling for a playoff spot and should debut Ke'Bryan Hayes tonight at the hot corner. Pitcher Andrew Abbott has been sensational overall and especially at home, going 4-1 with a 1.93 ERA. I'd be fine with -1 ...
These two will eventually be heading to Bristol for the Speedway Battle on Saturday. It might prove a welcome distraction for Braves fans who would probably rather think about NASCAR than their team which is now on a 95-loss pace after failing to score across 10 innings on Wednesday at Kansas City. Recently-added Carlos Carrasco, who starts tonight at Cincy, looks a desperate roll of the dice by Atlanta, as was adding Erick Fedde, who was shelled by the Royals on Tuesday. Solid edge to the Reds and Andrew Abbott, who has generated some Cy Young buzz with his 8-1 record and 2.09 ERA, and even better at home (1.93 ERA in ten starts). Play Reds on the Run Line.

Braves starter Carlos Carrasco, a righty, has a 5.91 ERA this season and the Yankees -- desperate for pitching -- already dumped him. Elly De La Cruz hits righties a ton better than lefties (we're talking around 70 points of average and over 250 points of OPS better). I like a lot of Reds' offense in this one and Elly is the centerpiece.
The Braves are a team worth fading right now. They're 45-62. They are 19-36 on the road, 7-17 in July and 3-9 since the break. Ronald Acuna Jr. is out and the Reds are sending Andrew Abbott (1.93 home ERA) to the mound. He threw five scoreless earlier this season against the Braves and they are worse now. Also, the Braves are starting Carlos Carrasco. It shouldn't be close.
