Eric Lauer in audition mode for a permanent spot in the starting rotation and he fared well last week against a tough Diamondbacks lineup. His season overall has been impressive as well. Now he gets a Guardians lineup that's had plenty of trouble getting on base and scoring. Add that Logan Allen could get touched up by a Blue Jays lineup that is very solid against lefties and I'm in on The Jays First Five.
Eric Lauer was great in his last start against the DBacks and since moving into a starter role for Toronto, he's yet to allow more than three earned runs. Some of his starts have been shorter due to the lack of a heavier workload but he lasted a full five innings last time out and now gets one of MLB's worst teams against left handed pitchers. Ranking third-worst in MLB with just a .602 OPS vs. lefties since the start of May, Cleveland should be a lineup that Lauer can once again get through five innings against. On the other side, Logan Allen has to face Toronto for the second time this year, and the Jays own a .747 OPS against lefties since May 1st.
