Caesar’s. I don’t think the 2025 version of Chris Sale justifies such a great price on under 17.5 outs. He’s failed to clear this line in seven of his nine starts, and throwing 4.09 pitches per plate appearance (17th highest of 133 qualifiers). While his slider has been solid, he's struggled mightily with his fastball and changeup, with opponents hitting 38/96 off of the two. In fact, he's decreased his changeup usage to 9%, effectively making him a two-pitch pitcher - opponents have caught on and have a .967 OPS the third time through the order. We also get solid hitting conditions today at Fenway, and the Red Sox are a top six team in OPS and wRC+ against southpaws.
I like to look at mismatches -- at least in my mind. So I generally avoid great pitching matchups like we have Friday ... but there is no absolute way I am not playing the "Former White Sox Bowl" of Chris Sale vs. Garrett Crochet. We also call it the "Red Sox Ripped Us Off" game. Guess we shall see on Crochet but not looking great so far in terms of the ChiSox's return. The Red Sox had the benefit of being off Thursday, while the Braves played and used all their key relievers. Not saying not available today, but it doesn't hurt in regards to this pick. But I will admit this is partially for my anti-Jerry Reinsdorf entertainment.
