So far so good for Bret Boone as the new Rangers hitting coach, with Texas slashing across 14 runs the past two nights in wins at Fenway Park after Texas made the move to bring in Boone to help jump-start what had been an sluggish offense. This price has us rather interested, too, as Tanner Houck's 6.38 ERA for the Bosox is not impressing, and the Sox offense has been misfiring in the current three-game slump. Good vibes lately from Rangers starter Tyler Mahle, who has been recently victimized by lack of run support but enters tonight with a 1.19 ERA and 0.98 WHIP for the season. The Rangers have won the last four meetings against the Red Sox, and all five games played this season have stayed under the total. That's what the Rangers do like no one else on the season, they've stayed under 25 times and only gone over 11. Tyler Mahle has lost his last three starts, but he pitched like a winner, only allowing three runs combined. He's only allowed five runs in seven starts. The Rangers keep this game under the total.

The Rangers' biggest issues hitting were at home; I like them at Fenway vs a struggling starter who can't regain his form after a long injury absence. They fired their hitting coach, which might not change much over time but could give them a little initial bump. It certainly puts more focus on their ABs. Meanwhile, Tyler Mahle looks like a Cy Young winner in his age 30 season after a middling career. Jonah Heim and Adolis Garcia absolutely hammer Tanner Houck, FWIW. the Red Sox bullpen is in tatters again. BOS only 9-8 at home. The Rangers' bats not good overall but their slug is higher on the road.
