Understanding Public and Money
The Halos look in freefall at the moment after another loss on Wednesday in Seattle, a fifth straight setback and not within a single run in any of those. Even back at the Big A tonight, not sure things improve any, especially if Mike Trout (who left Wednesday with a sore knee) can't feature. Pitching edge to the Tigers, who salvaged the finale of the three-game set in Houston, with Thursday starter Casey Mize allowing just 2 runs across 12 1/3 IP (1.45 ERA) in his last two starts, Note Halos starter Yusei Kikuchi off of his worst start yet, banged for 4 runs and 9 hits (plus 4 walks) in just 2 IP in last Saturday's loss at Minnesota. Play Tigers on Money Line
Detroit is currently three games below .500 on the road. However, they have a favorable matchup against Yusei Kikuchi, owning a 4.31 ERA, as they also are hitting .250 against lefties thus far, top 10 in the majors. The Angels are currently hitting .217 as a team at home and face Larry Mize, who has allowed one run, or less, in four of his first five starts on the season.
The Tigers own a .735 OPS against lefties and should fare well versus Angels starter Yusei Kikuchi, who has an expected ERA of 4.58. Kikuchi has walked 18 batters in his last five starts and faces a patient Detroit lineup that ranks eighth in walks per game. This is a cheap price on the Tigers, who are 19-9 since getting swept by the Dodgers in their opening series. Detroit starter Casey Mize has been excellent in four of his five starts and has an expected ERA of 2.44.
Yusei Kikuchi was awful in his last outing against the Twins and lasted only two innings. Look for a bounceback today against a Tigers offense that has plenty of swing-and-miss to its approach. Kikuchi had at least five strikeouts in his first five starts before the disaster in Minnesota.
Remember those heady times when people were opining about the Halos being '25's shock team? Well they've lose 12 of 15 and 5 straight (RD of 11-35 in that span). Their last 7 losses have all been by multiple run. Yusei Kikuchi has lost his command (4 W in each of last 2 starts) and his ground ball rate is shrinking ad he's allowed 23+ HR 4 years running. Tigers are a top HR team vs lefties and Casey Mize is pitching like the top overall pick he once was. Tigers have elite bullpen, too. Angels have played brutal travel schedule and already looked fatigues and now Mike Trout has an ouchie again, too. Yikes.
