There are two great pitchers on the mound tonight, and two sets of bats that have largely underperformed. I'm a big fan of Zac Gallen's splits at home, and Chris Sale has been dominant. I think both pitchers cruise through the first five innings and we see a total of two or three runs only.
Call this a contrarian play because the Diamondbacks hit lefties well and don't strike out a ton. Plus, there's a lot of juice on here, but I think Sale would get over this number against any team right now. In his last 11 starts, he's only come in under 6.5 once and that was a fluky game. He's averaging nearly nine strikeouts per game in this stretch and with an extra day of rest after being pushed back, he'll be throwing flames Tuesday night. Ladder this if you want, because he's gonna be good for eight or nine or even 10. Here, though, we only need seven.
Zac Gallen is a different pitcher at home where he possesses a sterling 1.72 ERA and this has been a theme throughout Gallen's career. He has gone at least 6 IP in every home start besides the home opener where he was on a pitch count. Gallen has gone at least 6+ IP in a remarkable 21 of his last 23 home starts dating back to last season (including postseason appearances). He will face a Braves offense that is the definition of average. Like always, I would recommend shopping around as you're likely to find better odds elsewhere, but I am comfortable even playing it up to -180.
