New York RHP Gerrit Cole stepped up in Game 1's 4-1 win and changed the narrative on his lack of grip goo or being mediocre in postseason starts. Cleveland RHP Cal Quantrill was slowed in the loss, so now the Guardians have won only 16 of his last 18 starts. Cleveland went 24-6 to close out the regular season and is 4-1 in the playoffs. Great starting pitching and great bullpen work. The mighty Yankees can’t find their way back to being the high-flying team they were in May and June. I’m on Cleveland to win and close out the series.
Interesting price on the runline (-125) considering Guards starter Cal Quantrill has been a money machine at home this year. And, hey, I get to fade Gerrit Cole. My man crush is over.
The Guardians made an improbable comeback last night against the Yankees bullpen, but surprisingly it wasn’t against the Yankees closer Clay Holmes. Aaron Boone opted to go with Clarke Schmidt instead, which is interesting because he didn’t trust Clark Schmidt enough to come in in the tie game last game and opted to go with Jameson Taillon instead. Then last night he goes directly to Schmidt, and it burned him. We’ve seen these Wild Card teams win across the league and I think the Guardians follow that trend at home. Cal Quantrill struggled in his first outing against the Yankees, but he has been much better at home this season going 9-0 with a 3.28 ERA. Gerrit Cole has owned the Guardians, but the Guardians can win low scoring games with their bullpen.
