Understanding Public and Money
Expert Picks
Honestly, I hate playing such heavy numbers in the playoffs, but I think a lot of these games will be low scoring in the playoffs and teams have no incentive to win by more than one run. So I would rather play this game straight up on the money line than parlay it with something else or play it on a run line because those are losing bets, in my opinion. I would personally recommend playing the Dodgers F5 -0.5 Run Line at -150 as the best play, but I don't have that option here. These two pitchers are trending in completely opposite directions. Julio Urias is 10-1 with a 1.75 ERA in his last 15 starts while Mike Clevinger is 5-6 with a 4.76 ERA in his last 15 starts. Urias also hasn’t allowed more than 2 runs in any of his 4 starts against the Padres this season. Clevinger allowed 5 runs and 4 runs in each of his two starts against the Dodgers. The Dodgers have a big bullpen advantage ranked 2nd in the league this season to the Padres ranked 14th. The Dodgers are also ranked 1st in the league in wOBA this season while the Padres are ranked 15th.
I like the momentum of the Padres after beating the Mets and they did it with little support from their big boppers. It was the little guys. But Julio Urias doesn’t lose. The Dodgers seem to always win behind him. They went 21-10 behind him. And the Dodgers always beat the Padres, going 14-5 this season against them. But I still could see the Padres winning. Urias beat them twice at the beginning of September and both went Over the total. At the same time in September, Mike Clevinger split his starts and both went Over. Back the Over.
The books really aren't giving us much value on Tuesday's four games, but I'll risk this now that Julio Urias (17-7, 2.16 ERA) has been confirmed as the LA starter. He had a 1.94 ERA at night this year and was 3-0 with a 1.50 ERA in four starts vs. the Friars. They go with Mike Clevinger (7-7, 4.33). He was on the COVID list as recently as last Wednesday. Over his final six starts of the regular season, Clevinger posted a 6.52 ERA and 1.31 WHIP in 29 innings and in three overall starts vs. the Dodgers had a 9.69 ERA. LA dominated San Diego during the regular season.
