It took almost a perfect start from Max Fried on Tuesday for Atlanta to win its first regular season game in Los Angeles since 2018. I'm not expecting the Braves to get the same kind of performance on Wednesday from Charlie Morton (1-1, 6.10 ERA), who was shaky last time out. Austin Riley (paternity) is a late scratch for Atlanta, so I'm backing the Dodgers to get back to their winning ways in this one.
The Dodgers and Walker Buehler burned me last night, but I have a hard time seeing that lineup held in check a second straight game even by Atlanta's Charlie Morton. Perhaps age is catching up to him as Morton has a 6.10 ERA in two starts. He was also significantly worse in day games in 2021. Tony Gonsolin (1.29 ERA) is criminally underrated for Los Angeles. The Braves are without Austin Riley (.292, 2 HR, 6 RBI) as he landed on the paternity list.
Charlie Morton pitched well against the Reds but the Reds lineup is bad. The Padres hit him hard and I think the Dodgers should benefit significantly from seeing a righty today. They should also have the advantage by giving all their top bullpen arms the night off yesterday. Tony Gonsolin pitched very well in his first two starts but he hasn’t been pitching deep into games. However, the Dodgers should be ok with that since they were able to rest all their guys yesterday. The Dodgers have the second highest wOBA in the league against righties and they have the 6th best bullpen in the league compared to the Braves being in the bottom third. I like the Dodgers to bounce back and win this series at home.
