What the heck happened to one-time Reds ace Luis Castillo? The right-hander has been arguably the worst starter in MLB with a 1-7 record and 7.22 ERA -- Castillo has been worth minus-1.2 wins for his team. You and I are worth zero to the Reds, so Castillo is being paid millions to be worse than us. He's 0-4 with an 8.74 ERA on the road and 0-2 with a 12.96 ERA vs. St. Louis. If the Cards' offense wasn't in a funk, I'd take them on the runline behind Kwang Hyun Kim (1-3, 3.65).
Luis Castillo is 1-8 with a 7.22 ERA this season and he was 0-6 with a 8.04 ERA in May. He has faced the Cardinals twice this season and allowed 14 runs in 8.1 IP. Kwang-Hyun Kim is 1-3 with a 3.65 ERA this season and he allowed just one earned run in 5.2 IP against the Reds earlier this season. The Reds have the fourth worst OPS in the league against lefties and the Cards should have their regular lineup tonight after Paul Goldschmidt didn’t start yesterday. Take the Cards at home.
The Reds are 1-10 in Luis Castillo's starts this season, including two losses to the Cardinals. In those two outings, Castillo gave up 12 earned runs over 8.1 innings. St. Louis is 16-8 as a favorite this season and has won Kwang-Hyun Kim's last four home starts. Lay it.
Fading Luis Castillo is a must for me today. He has been nothing short of awful. He carries a 1.78 WHIP, which moves to 1.91 when runners are in scoring position. The rest of his peripherals inspire concern as well, most notably the bottom-sixth percentile .386 wOBA. He does not look like the pitcher he was in years past and essentially doesn't have the stuff he used to. The velocity is there, but the command is subpar. Look for the Cardinals to pounce on Castillo and drive up the score. I'd consider their team total today too. Did I mention the red birds hung 10 runs on him once already this year? Back the Cardinals.
