Understanding Public and Money

Think of 'Public' as the percentage of people betting on each side and 'Money' as how much money is being bet. When there's a big difference between the 'Public' and 'Money' data, it usually means that the more serious bettors (referred to as 'Sharp Money') are favoring a particular side.

John's Analysis:

The Rays have won 10 straight games and they get Ryan Yarbrough to start today. He has been excellent behind an opener but he has really struggled without one. It looks like the Blue Jays are starting Trent Thornton as an opener in front of Ross Stripling, who has seriously struggled this season. I immediately thought the over would be a good play but 10.5 is very high for a getaway game. Take the Rays as slight favorites riding their winning streak.

Matt's Analysis:

It's not often that a team scratching a starting pitcher will give me cause to bet on said team, but the Blue Jays are probably better off going with opener Trent Thornton here instead of previously scheduled Ross Stripling (0-3, 7.20). Toronto is on a five-game skid and Tampa on a 10-game winning streak, so we'll take the Jays on the runline instead of an outright upset vs. Rays starter Ryan Yarbrough. He has been way better this year when following an opener (1-0. 2.00 in four appearances) than as a traditional starter (0-3, 6.28 ERA in five starts).
