For all the Dodgers' woes this season, they come into Friday's NL West clash only two games behind the first-place Giants with a four-game win streak. But the Giants have been keeping themselves in first with a five-game win streak as the second-place Padres (half-game back) have won six straight. The Giants are thriving with early-season pressure and are 14-4 at home. This is a terrific pitching matchup with Trevor Bauer (2.20 ERA) against Alex Wood (1.75 ERA). Take the Under.
The Giants have the best overall record in baseball and best home record (14-4) yet are dogs? That seems like a gift. Yes, the Dodgers start reigning NL Cy Young winner Trevor Bauer (4-2, 2.20), but he has been a bit less effective away from Dodger Stadium. San Francisco goes with lefty and former Dodger Alex Cobb (5-0, 1.75). L.A. has fared a bit worse vs. southpaws this season and that lineup is missing Corey Seager, Cody Bellinger and AJ Pollock. I'll gladly take the Giants on the runline in the first meeting between these bitter rivals.
The Giants have won five games in a row and they head home where they are 14-4 this season. Alex Wood is 5-0 with a 1.75 ERA and he hasn’t allowed more than two runs in a start this season. The Dodgers have Trevor Bauer starting and he is 4-2 with a 2.20 ERA this season. The Dodgers are 10-12 on the road this season while the Giants are 14-4 at home. The Giants just put up 19 runs in Cincy and they have won five in a row, the only thing I would be worried about is the cross-country flight yesterday. Either way, this line should be much closer to even money than it is and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it move before the game. Take the Giants.
The Giants scored 19 runs yesterday and then had to travel home to get ready to face L.A.’s Trevor Bauer. This feels like a clear letdown spot for their offense, and I don’t see the Giants rotation allowing this to get out of hand; they have one of the best ERAs baseball for a reason. Neither team is going to have an easy time hitting the ball due to climate shifts, and runs will come at a premium. Look for a small ball game to come in below the total. Play the Under.
We're looking at some evening out to be done here. The Giants are probably a good team, but they aren't "best record in baseball" or "14-4 at home" good. Alex Wood is having a nice bounce back season and he had a good track record before his awful 2019-20 seasons, but he's not "5-0, 1.75 ERA" good. The Dodgers lost 14 of 18 games after a 13-2 start, but they've been back on track since then. Trevor Bauer is better than Wood. The Dodgers have more offensive talent than the Giants. No need to get cute. Take the Dodgers on the run line. They'll win by multiple runs.
