The Royals won the series opener 8-5 over the Yankees, their eighth victory in the past 10 games. At 69-62, K.C. is just two games back in the AL Wild Card chase. One has to wonder if the Yankees' infusion of youth is beginning to fizzle. Despite tremendous run production, they're just 7-7 over their last 14 games. But New York ace Masahiro Tanaka, who gets the ball Tuesday, has not given up a run in consecutive starts. This is a value spot for the road favorites.
The total on this game is simply too low based on my simulations, which show a projection of just over nine runs scored between the teams. Kansas City's Edinson Volquez has seen nine runs or more in five of the last six games he has started, including his past two at home. New York has also seen double digits scored in three of its previous four following Monday's game. The value is clearly on the over here.
This is a low price on New York's Masahiro Tanaka, who has won his last four starts overall and owns a 6-3 mark on the road with a 2.09 ERA. Tanaka's last two starts have both come away from home, and he did not allow a run in either of them after working a total of 14.2 innings. The Vegas odds give the Yankees a 55% chance of winning, but my simulations show a much higher result of 68% for the road favorites.
