Today's top picks: Why the Diamondbacks will beat the Padres, plus more MLB Opening Day, NHL and golf best bets for Thursday

SportsLine's proven experts share their favorite bets on the Early Edge podcast for Thursday, April 7

Host Jonathan Coachman is joined by Mike McClure, John Bollman and Allie O'Neill on the Early Edge podcast, powered by SportsLine. Get highlighted plays for Major League Baseball, NHL and golf for Thursday, April 7, and you can stream the show live every morning on the SportsLine YouTube page.

Coach's excitement about the Masters teeing off Thursday morning leads him to offer a pick right off the bat. He takes Tigers Woods +118 to beat Kevin Na in a first-round matchup. Woods hasn't played a competitive round in more than a year, but he owns Augusta and will be looking to make a statement.

John and Mike get into Major League Baseball's Opening Day, with Bollman recommending bettors keep their stakes low as they feel out how the teams will start out. McClure adds that it's important to keep an eye on the weather reports, with cold temperatures and high winds affecting most games Thursday, while California is in summer-like conditions.

Coach offers up a pair SportsLine Plays of the Day on MLB Opening Day, both from the Cubs vs. Brewers matchup (2:20 p.m. ET). The first pick is the Cubs to go Under their team total of four runs (-112), and the second is Milwaukee's Corbin Burnes Over 7.5 strikeouts (-102).

Mike also is on Major League Baseball and is going with a first five innings money line play. He is taking Houston +115 in the first five in the Astros vs. Angels game (9:38 p.m. ET). "The line is definitely inflated because Shohei Ohtani is on the mound for the Angels, Mike Trout back in the lineup, they are healthy," McClure says. "The Astros still have the better lineup here."

Allie is staying in her wheelhouse on NHL, and she picks the Nashville vs. Ottawa game (7 p.m. ET) to go Over six goals. Five of the Senators' last six games have gone Over, and Predators goalie Juuse Saros has a 3.43 GAA in his last 10 starts on the road.

Bollman offers an Opening Day play and two MLB futures picks. He takes the Diamondbacks +140 against the Padres (9:40 p.m. ET). San Diego was 11-8 against Arizona last season but just 4-5 on the road, and it will be missing star shortstop Fernando Tatis. This is the same pitching matchup as last season's opener, with Yu Darvish of San Diego facing the Diamondbacks' Madison Bumgarner. Both pitchers were hit hard in that game, an 8-7 Padres victory.

John's first MLB futures play is the Astros -160 to win the AL West. Houston reached the World Series last season and hasn't changed all that much, and the other teams in the West aren't major threats. Bollman and McClure are both very high on young Houston starter Framber Valdez and say he is one of the top players to watch in MLB this season.

Bollman also likes the Blue Jays +1000 to win the World Series. "This team won 91 games last season, and they still under-performed by about eight wins, according to their run differential," Bollman says. Toronto added a lot of key pieces, and Bollman says, "I think this is the best-constructed team in the AL. I love this team to win the World Series"
