Today's picks: Chiefs vs. Broncos among best bets, plus more NFL and college basketball picks for Saturday

SportsLine's proven experts share their favorite bets on the Early Edge podcast for Saturday, Jan. 8

By@SportsLineUpdated: Jan 08, 2022 4:11PM UTC . 4 min read

Host Allan Bell is joined by betting experts Mike McClure, Micah Roberts and Justin Perri on the Early Edge podcast, powered by SportsLine. Get highlighted plays for the NFL and college basketball for Saturday, Jan. 8, and you can stream the show live every morning on the SportsLine YouTube page.

The crew starts off discussing the opening of legal sports betting in New York, with the state buzzing and sportsbooks offering huge deposit bonuses, including SportsLine partner Caesars Sportsbook.

McClure jumps right in with an NFL Week 18 player prop, despite his hesitancy to make those bets in the final week. The number is simply too good to pass up, and he is taking Kansas City receiver Tyreek Hill to go Over 63.5 receiving yards (-115). "This number is simply too low here," Mike says, and his projections have Hill at 78 yards.

Micah likes Mike's pick and breaks down the major issues the Broncos are facing before they take on the Chiefs on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. ET. He is taking Kansas City in the first half -6.5 and laying -10.5 because of the injuries that have decimated the Denver defense. "They're going to have a fun day, I think, the Chiefs offense is," Roberts says, "and it's because they always do against the Broncos."

Denver has lost 12 straight to the Chiefs, going 2-10 ATS and 0-7 ATS at home. "That's just absurd," Micah says.

Roberts also is taking Washington -7 against the Giants at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday, with Jake Fromm starting at quarterback for New York and the team really struggling. "They've checked out, they can't move the ball, the defense is tired," Micah says of the Giants.

Add in the negative comments Giants coach Joe Judge made about Washington, and Roberts expects Ron Rivera to assure that his player go out seeking to humiliate New York.

Allan jumps in with three NFL picks, going Chiefs -10.5 against Denver, Tampa Bay -8 against the Panthers on Sunday at 4:35 p.m. ET and Tennessee -10.5 against the Texans on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.

"We don't get Tom Brady in this position -- under double digits -- very often," Bell says of the Bucs-Panthers matchup. "I am gonna absolutely take it." He expects Brady to be motivated by last week's near-miss against the Jets.

"They might put 100 up on Carolina on Sunday," Bell says, "and with that Panthers offense, I don't think they'll be scoring a whole lot."

Perri is all over the huge college basketball slate, with well over 100 games on Saturday in the middle of conference play. Justin is taking Houston in the first half -6 against Wichita State. "Houston has been coming out hot on their own floor," Perri says, "I really think they're going to put up some mean numbers against Wichita." He thinks the Cougars could be up close to double digits going into halftime.

Perri's model also likes Utah Valley -12 over Dixie State "Utah Valley, this is a strong team," he says, adding that Dixie State has lost its last three games by more than 14 points. Those were against Southern Utah, Tarleton and Abilene Christian, and Perri's projections have Utah Valley winning by 18 points at home.
